About Kathy
I have a long background in the arts, having danced professionally with Sydney Dance Co at the Opera House; Ballet Rambert, London; touring the world dancing for a large part of my life; and working in commercial choreography, set design and production.
The learned professionalism, dedication, inspiration and self-discipline have fuelled my transition into everything I have done since.
I have wonderful early memories of my mum, Betty, making beautiful wedding cakes in the 50’s through to the 70’s. I remember watching her hand-piping sugar lace in our old dining room, surrounded by heaters to keep the air dry.
Betty won her decorating section at the Easter Show ten years in a row, with her models of the Cutty Sark in full sail; icing tapestries; shoes and handbags; gilt parlours and ladies in crinolines – all made from hand-moulded and piped sugar in glorious colours.
Wedding cake design has changed a lot since the 50’s.
At 8 years, I was learning to mould some of the simpler petals on a wooden rolling pin.
I have been practising the art in earnest for some years now and my personal favourites are ombre roses; detailed florals and experimenting with colour combinations.
